Opening Credits in Films

Most films consists of opening credits which play out before the opening sequence or during the opening sequence. These credits usually state the most important members of the crew.

The style of the credits usually depend on what genre the film is. For example, a softer font would be used in romantic film in contrast to a thriller which would have a more bold font to stand out. The colour choice would also be specific to indicate what the particular genre is. Colours often link with emotions and symbolises things. An example, is the colour yellow which represents joy. This may be more suited for a film in the comedy genre.

Often, some films have a title sequence at the beginning specifically to show the opening credits. An example of this is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortuante Events. An animation was created and the opening credits were incorporated into it to make the beginning more interesting. The animation was done in darker colours which immediately sets the tone of the film.

Other opening credits appear between different shots on a plain background. This is effective as it can often create suspense.
